Ingrid Newkirk Speaks in Dallas

Okay--so Ingrid Newkirk is extreme. "A necessary tactic in order to get noticed and change the world," so she puts it.

But regardless of how you feel about the president and cofounder of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), the world's largest animal rights organization, it would be a shame to miss the opportunity to hear Ingrid Newkirk speak in person!

Newkirk will be in town next week signing and discussing her newest book The PETA Practical Guide to Animal Rights: Simple Acts of Kindness to Help Animals in Trouble. The book provides tips and resources to connect with a whole new community of animal lovers.

The event will be held on Tuesday, June 23, at 7 PM at Barnes and Noble (7700 West Northwest Hwy. Ste. 300).

A note to all you young activists: leave your red paint at home. This will be a civilized event. And don't be shocked when you learn that Ingrid is not quite the monster the media has made her out to be. Sorry ;)

Good Morning...I was reading this and had a thought....one that I thought was quite enlightened...dont ask me where it came from but it just hit me when I saw the paint/blood in the pic....OK, so what I was thinking is that when people through pain ton fur coats to ruin them, arent they doing the very thing that they are protesting against, sort of, in a way? As in, yes the poor animal had to die but you were putting some of the animal product to use so its death wasnt in vain, and it is now supplying warm to an individual....but now that you ruined the coat the animals death was a total waste and completely useless? OK, thinking that deep was exhausting....im done...

Not totally, JR--I know a ton of people who'd buy a second-hand, blood-smothered coat just like that for this year's Disturbathon ;)

I am not sure how I feel about Ingrid Newkirk. My major issue with her (for obvious reasons if you've looked at my blog) is her outright hatred and condemnation of pit bull dogs. To have someone associated with an animal rights organization calling for the mass extermination of all of one kind of animal because she was bitten by one as a kid is otrageous to me. I would be curious to hear what she has to say now on this point.
