Tough Cookie Bakery: An Inside Look

Tolerance, compassion, and bravery—all qualities necessary to make someone a tough cookie—T-C-B…Tough Cookie Bakery.” That’s the motto that symbolizes this local company’s commitment to making the world a better place.

Freshly baked vegan muffins, cookies, pretzels, and cinnamon rolls — That’s what’s been keeping our friends at Tough Cookie Bakery busy little bakers these days.

Tough Cookie Bakery started their operation back in 2004, traveling the festival circuit in a trailer full of Bavarian style pretzels. The pretzels were a hit! So after years of juggling multiple jobs and baking on the road, Chris and Jennie McEwan ditched their corporate gigs (and the trailer) and decided to give this baking-for-a-living thing a shot.

Today, they’ve expanded their offerings and are now baking full-time out of a commercial bakery in Irving. Their vegan goods can be found at only the hippest shops around town. Crooked Tree Coffeehouse, The Green Spot, and The Pearl Cup all carry TCB items – and folks just can’t seem to get enough. Even Erykah Badu is known to swing by The Green Spot every now and then to pick up a few those oh-so-decadent vegan cinnamon rolls we all dream about. And who can blame her? (Hmm—I wonder if she’s also responsible for those empty trays at The Pearl Cup...)

Well, Erykah—maybe your next cinnamon roll will include a little love from me, too! Take a look at how the magic happens.

So what else do the Tough Cookie Bakers have up their sleeves? You can expect a line of gluten-free pastries, pizza crusts, pies, and artisan breads in the near future. But whatever these two baking fiends come up with next, you can guarantee the guys here at Dallas Vegan will keep you in the know.

Visit with the Tough Cookie Bakers at the White Rock Local Market this Saturday, August 8 to sample their current line of vegan baked goods.

I'm so close to Green Spot it would be a crime if I didn't go see...

yes, I know - I'm close too! It's going to be my motivation for getting up early so I can snag some goodies before they run out.

Can't wait!

unfortunately I got there too late for cinnamon rolls...but I did get a pretzel loaf which was *awesome*. Although I suspect eating a whole pretzel loaf is not an ideal breakfast/lunch.

Sounds most excellent! It's so cool that Erykah Badu stops by to grab a cinnamon roll.
